How can I create a small telescope?
I've gotten into steampunk (Victorian Era sci-fi) and I want to customize welder's goggles into steampunk goggles. My idea is that over one side of the goggles I can flip down a small telescope and turn a gear which will change the zoom of the telescope. The goggles' eyepieces are exactly 2 inches in width (5 cm). I would like it if the telescope worked similar to a camera lens. Any ideas on how to do it? I've never done this thing before, but I think it would turn out pretty cool.
to make this optically feasible you would need very very specific lenes. if you have access to some jewelers solder you could buy and break open an cheap set of binoculars, extract the lenses and then set them in solder, places them on a rod scaffold that with eyelets that have tapped screws holes on them. so you can slid the lenses freely along the rod, and set them along the rod as you like.
