Why do movies and TV series show binocular views incorrectly?
When you look through binoculars you actually see a circular image. But in movies they always show a laid down figure of eight image. Why is this?
It's really perception
A circular image usually indicates a single lens viewing (telescope) a layed down figure eight shows there's 2 lenses.
There are some hiccups in film like this that some people will catch on to. But everything in film is done for a reason, every nook and cranny is gone over and they think about the perception of the human mind.
In some movies you wont see someone pick something up but in the next scene he might have it. There will be an indication in the previous shots he wants to pick it up for whatever reason so the audience is clever enough to make the connection that he picks an object up somewhere off camera, some people might say "when did he pick that up?"
that's another example.
The more obvious flaws in movies are usually around the "computer hacker" area.. in movies you'll usually see a really stupid looking computer screen set up and real hackers will say it looks nothing like that but it's just so the audience understands what's happening.
If people aren't educated on the subject in films they can't understand the complex tasks behind them.. for example diffusing a bomb is complex so movies simplify it through the cutting a certain colour of a wire so the audience can understand.
Someone educated about bombs will say "that's wrong" but it's just so the audience can keep up to speed and have a good understanding about what's happening
