Can you see a red dot/pattern when looking through an ACOG during the day, or only at night?
I thought you could see a red chevron or dot all the time, but ive seen pictures where no dot is visible. Also, if the dot isnt visible, is the non-illuminated part of the reticule parallax free?
It depends. There are many models of the ACOG. Many different reticles also...chevron, horseshoe, dot, triangle, circle, crosshairs, etc.
If the exact ACOG model has a fiber optic tube on top, the chevron will be lit during the day. If no fiber optic tube, the chevron or other reticle will appear black during the day.
You can tape over the fiber optic tube if the reticle is too bright for you.
Both are lit at night through the use of tritium. No batteries on these.
